Bow Fishing

The popularity of bowfishing has been rising dramatically as bowhunters find an off-season sport that combines the best of two sports... fishing and archery. Archers bow fishing tend to use recurve bows that allow quick target acquisition and release properties. Taking the time to anchor, find a pin through the peep, put it on the target and squeezing or using backtension just does not work very well when the target presents itself one second and is gone the next. Special bowfishing points have barbs that allow the fish to be reeled in. Heavier arrows are used with line and a spooler which allows the line to pull freely upon release. At this point, the archer becomes an angler attempting to land the fish, although catch and release doesn't work very well.
