| Compound Bows |
Compound Bows first started to be developed in the 1970's. Since then, technological improvements in materials, especially string material, have make the compound much more reliable and accurate. Early string material would continually stretch, making tuning a huge issue. Todays string material stretches very little. Once a string has been shot in or prestretched, for most practical purposes stays put. Our Winners Choice strings represent the pinnacle of string technology. Virtually no stretch with no peep rotation makes using our modern compounds truely a pleasure. A bow is considered a compound bow if it uses one or more pulleys. These pulleys have developed from a simple wheel to oval designs called cams because they help store much more energy than a simple wheel. Most have removable or movable modules that allow draw length adjustments. Many also create a wall at the back of the draw to help improve consistency in the shot and draw length. Compound bow types have evolved into three main designs, the single cam, the hybrid cam, and the dual or twin cam. All have strengths and weaknesses. Some companies like Martin Archery offer all three to their customers. Other companies have chosen to focus developement on one type. Mathews compound bows are single cams, while Hoyt USA compound bows are hybrids.
PSE Archery, Martin Archery, Alpine Archery and Reflex Archery supply Ye Olde Archery Shoppe with the worlds best bows.
